The village of Beget is located in an abyss in the Garrotxa region. Old stone houses with wooden balconies staggered over the river, crossed by two old and well-preserved bridges. The parish church, declared a national monument, dedicated to Saint Christopher, is a Romanesque example from the 10th-13th centuries. It is a village in the middle of nature surrounded by oak and holm oak forests and small streams, which descend from the mountain, everywhere. Three large ponds in the river are located on the outskirts of Beget. Perfect for a fun day of bathing.
Near the Molí de Malatosca, in Sant Joan de les Abadesses, there is a pool called Les Bruixes because they had stayed there. A meeting place for witches and a refuge for magical beings, legend has it that one day they called a midwife from the village because one of them had to have a child. In return for their services, they gave her a skirt of lentils, and the midwife, all enraged, threw them down Ter. The next day, when he put on his apron, he noticed that a lentil had stuck to it and turned to gold. It is a place characterized by a high natural, landscape, the cultural and historical importance of the municipality of Sant Joan de les Abadesses.
The excursion through the 7 gorges of the Torrent de la Cabana is a popular outing for families. An itinerary that follows the Estiula torrent in a section without difficulties and is perfectly signposted with information panels along its entire route. So you can enjoy all the waterfalls and pools one by one. The route starts in the car park of the Font del Querol leisure area, about three kilometers from Campdevànol in the direction of Gombrèn. The area has tables, benches, and barbecues.
To get there we will have to turn off from the A-26 motorway (Olot) towards Montagut to continue up until we reach the town of Sadernes, where the road ends. The typical excursion is the one that takes you to the church of Sant Aniol d’Aguja (about 2 hours). In the early winter and summer, you can drive to Valentí Bridge and save yourself an hour of walking. Arriving in Sant Aniol we find a Romanesque church, an old refuge in the process of being remodeled by Sant Aniol’s own friends, and a very fresh fountain! From there you can walk another 15 minutes to Salt del Brull. We can take one last swim in the wide Gorg Blau, which is one of the best bathing places on the whole stream.
The four stepped ponds offered by the Borró River are the points where this torrent, mostly underground, rises to the surface. The inhabitants of Sales and the nearby towns have always been there during the summer heat of Alta Garrotxa. To get there, at least at the lowest ones, all you have to do is go to Sales and follow the signs for the road. To access the upper and deeper, called the Blue Gorg, it is worth taking a specialized hiking map or asking hunters.
They constitute a set of ponds in the first sections of the Muga. They are located within the Plan of Areas of Natural Interest of Alta Garrotxa and have a very remarkable natural environment made up of chestnut trees, holm oak groves, and meadows. Around it, we find abundant river fishing points. Just 2 km from Albanyà, taking the path that passes next to Camping Bassegoda Park, we reach what is probably the most fun area of the Muga of all. Here the young and not so young have fun dipping in the water and jumping from the rocks.
